Training Independent Living Residents to run VR sessions

Residents Training Residents

Last week we did a “first” ~ training four wonderful independent living residents; Ian, Barb, Linda and Phil, how to operate SilVR Adventures virtual reality solution and run meaningful VR sessions for their fellow residents!

Their enthusiasm and excitement for this initiative was inspirational, and huge thanks to the team at Summerset Group Holdings Limited (shout out Orquidea, Kirsty & Sarah) for leading this creative opportunity, bringing tech, engagement and the world to their residents to improve wellbeing and quality of life.

This is first came to us while speaking to a number of experts on our Aged Care Enrichment Podcast.

Professor Laurie Buys, Professor of Health and Behavioural Sciences at the University of Queensland, and former National President of the Australian Association of Gerontology discussed longevity and how we can deliver better social and economic outcomes for everyone by focusing our attention on products, services and policies for people over 65.

Laurie was passionate about breaking down traditional barriers of age, and examining how we can be valuable contributors to society long past the so-called “retirement age”.

Additionally, our episode with Emi Kiyota, an ageing design expert and self described Environmental Gerontologist, highlighted the opportunity to help older adults create sustainable and socially integrated communities that places elders and their value at the heart of the organisation.

The key focus of this work is all about empowering older adults to continue contributing to society, and why interdependent communities are the future of care.

This wasn’t the only notable event at Summerset recently either… New Zealand TV personalities Suzanne Paul and Jude Dobson having some fun in virtual reality with SilVR Adventures 💙 We can’t wait to hear more about their adventures 🙌
