Australia’s first intergenerational virtual reality (VR) program, Virtual Voyagers, has captured the attention of both 7News and Port Macquarie News, highlighting the transformative power of technology to foster connection across generations.

Developed by SilVR Adventures and proudly supported by Intergen Connect and Port Macquarie Hastings Council, the program brings together residents from Garden Village Aged Care and students from Heritage Christian School. Together, they “travel” the world in VR—exploring places like the Eiffel Tower, the Great Wall of China, or even revisiting childhood hometowns. The experience goes far beyond sightseeing: it sparks conversation, triggers memories, and builds genuine friendships.

As featured in the news coverage, students and older adults alike spoke about the joy and surprise of discovering how much they had in common. For many residents, the VR sessions brought a renewed sense of purpose and connection, while students gained empathy and a new perspective on ageing.
