Introducing SilVR FIT: Movement, Discovery and Wellbeing in VR

SilVR FIT

With the new Aged Care Act now in place and the sector placing even greater emphasis on reablement, wellbeing and meaningful daily engagement, we know many providers are looking for practical, enjoyable ways to support residents to stay active and connected. At SilVR Adventures, we have been listening to our partners across aged care, and we are pleased to introduce an optional addition to your existing VR program: SilVR FIT.

SilVR FIT combines gentle physical exercise with the joy and motivation of exploring the world. Using small adapted pedals or kayak paddles paired with the VR headsets you already have, residents can cycle or paddle through calming lakes, lush forests, coastlines, gardens, and European villages in full 360 degrees. The experience feels like travel, adventure and discovery rather than routine exercise. Movement happens naturally, guided by curiosity and a sense of purpose.

Sean, Campus Coordinator at Onemda, explains how SilVR FIT helps to support clients to maintain and improve physical function

Why SilVR FIT Matters Now

The new Aged Care Act highlights several key priorities that are shaping daily life in residential and community care settings. These include:

• Supporting people to maintain and improve physical function
• Encouraging participation in daily activities and community life
• Providing meaningful, personalised experiences
• Creating environments that nurture emotional and physical wellbeing

SilVR FIT aligns closely with these priorities. The program encourages movement in a way that feels positive and rewarding, helping residents improve balance, confidence and coordination while also engaging socially, cognitively and emotionally. It can be delivered as a one to one session or as a shared group activity that brings residents together and helps reduce social isolation.

Built on Evidence and Practicality

SilVR FIT builds on our ongoing research collaborations with Deakin University in Australia and the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) in Singapore. Our work shows that shared VR experiences can support improvements in mood, engagement, physical movement and social interaction. SilVR FIT takes these principles further by linking movement with meaningful sensory and cultural exploration.

The program has been designed so that wellbeing and lifestyle teams can run it easily, without requiring additional clinical training. Sessions can be short and flexible, making them suitable for residents with a wide range of abilities, including those who may be reluctant to participate in traditional exercise programs.

SilVR FIT can be run one to one or can even support friendly multi-site challenges across your organisation, giving residents a shared goal and a sense of achievement.

Bringing SilVR FIT to Your Site

If you are already using SilVR, adding SilVR FIT is a simple extension. We will provide the pedal or paddle equipment along with full training and support for your team. From there, your staff can offer movement-based VR sessions that encourage strength, mobility, connection and joy.

If you would like to explore adding SilVR FIT to your program, we would be very happy to discuss the options and share what other providers are already experiencing.
